The Boy (Dir. William Brent Bell) 2016

The Boy is a psychological horror directed by William Brent Bell. The themes are love, confusion, paranoia, lies, & murder. The film was produced by Matt Berenson, Jodyne Herron, Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg & Jim Wedaa. The film was written by Stscey Menear. The film stars Lauren Cohan (Greta), Rupert Evans (Malcom), Jim Norton (Mr. Heelshire), Diana Hardcastle (Mrs. Heelshire), Ben Robson (Cole), James Russell (adult Brahms), Jett Klyne (young Brahms)  & Lily Pater (Emily Cribbs). The film is based in England. It was filmed in Victoria, British Columbia at Craigdarroch Castle. The budget of $10 million & it received $62.4 million. The production companies involved in this film were Huayi Brothers Media, Lakeshore Entertainment, STX Entertainment & Vertigo Entertainment.

The important micro feature in this film was sound. The reason why sound is important in this film because it was used to create suspense. The absence of sound & the presence of sound both created more & more suspense as the film went on. The use of an innocent child's voice made the film more sinister & it was contrapuntal. I say it's contrapuntal because the idea of a child connotes innocence & people don't tend to think that children can be sinister. However in the horror movie genre, it is becoming more common for children to be used because the audience tend to find it scarier.
