Audition is a Japanese horror film directed by Takashi Miike. The themes in this film are love, obsession, pain, child abuse, & mutilation. The film was produced Satoshi Fukushima & Akemi Suyama. The production companies that were involved in this film were Omega Project, Creators Company Connection, Film Face, AFDF Korea & Bodysonic.
The film was released in 1999 at the Vancouver International Film Festival & it was then released in Japan on March 3rd 2000. In 2002 the DVD was released in the United States, Lionsgate then released a dubbed version in 2005. The film stars Ryo Ishibashi (Shigeharu Aoyama), Eihi Shiina (Asami Yamazaki), Jun Kunimura (Yasuhisa Yoshikawa), Miyuki Matsuda (Ryoko Aoyama), Toshie Negishi (Rie), Tetsu Sawaki (Shigehiko Aoyama), Shigeru Saiki (Sakaba no Masuta), Ken Mituishi (Direkuta), Ren Ohsugi (Shimada), & Renji Ishibashi (Kurumaisu no Rojin).
Director Quentin Tarantino describes the film as a "true masterpiece."
