Love is All You Need? (Dir. Kim Rocco Shields) 2011
Love is All You Need is a short drama with the themes of love, coming of age, discrimination, family, depression & bullying. This short film was directed by Kim Rocco Shields who is also the writer of this film along side with David Tillman. The film stars Lexi DiBenedetto (Ashley), Josh Feldman (flower boy), Orlando Magnus (Blake), Carrie Lazar (mum) & Sheri Levy (mum). The production company that produced this film was Wingspan Pictures. This short film is 17 minutes long.
During the beginning of this film there is a voice over & this follows through the rest of the film. We do not know who is talking during the voice over however we find that out once we are introduced to the protagonist (Ashley). The story follows through her struggles of being heterosexual in a homosexual world. The most important micro feature in this film was performance. The performance projected by the actors was well, the nuances gave the audience the understanding of Ashley's struggles & the nuances also represent the bullies as very mean. We believed that the bullies were truly horrible through their nuances & their actions & through Lexi's reaction, we sympathise with her because we see how much pain she is in.
The performance of the two mothers were also believable, one of the mothers (Carrie Lazar) took the role of a father but obviously being female so she expected Ashley to join in with sports whereas the other mother (Sheri Levy) was the stereotypical mother who wanted her child to do the opposite of what the "father" wanted their child to do.
