The Shawshank was directed by Frank Darabont (known for The Green Mile), it is a crime drama with the themes of injustice, friendship & deceit. The film was released in 1994. The film stars Morgan Freeman (Red) & Tim Robbins (Andy). This film was produced by Niki Marvin (Midnight Cabaret 1990) & the screenplay was written by Frank Darabont. The writer was Stephen King. The production company involved in this film was Castle Rock Entertainment. Shawshank Redemption's budget was $25 million & it received $727,327 on the opening weekend. Worlwide it received $58,500,000.

The Shawshank Redemption was filmed in 1993.

The film is set in Maine, Ohio. The film is set over a period of time, firstly beginning at 1940. The Shawshank redemption has won 14 awards & has been nominated 26 times.  


The key sequence of this film is when the prisoners are all standing outside their cells apart from Andy. We then find out Andy has escaped. This is an important key sequence because it changes the narrative of the film, we are no longer seeing Andy face injustice, he is finally free to do what he wants.
